9 months of 2023, Poipet Victims Rehabilitation Center Receive More Than 16,000 migrant workers repatriated from Thailand

Banteay Meanchey: In nine months of 2023, Poipet Victims Rehabilitation Center received 16,349 repatriated migrant workers from Thailand, of which 136 were victims of human trafficking.

The Minister of Social Affairs, Mr. Chea Somethy, said at the inauguration ceremony of the Poipet Victims Rehabilitation Center in Banteay Meanchey this morning, December 18, 2023, that among 16,349 migrant workers sent back from Thailand. There were 8,045 females, 6,849 males, 762 boys and 693 girls.

He added that after being sent to the center, they interviewed and identified the victims to provide short-term accommodation before being sent back to partner organizations and communities.

As a result, 136 victims of human trafficking were found (26 females, 20 males, 46 girls and 44 boys). 10 victims of labor exploitation (3 females, 5 males, 1 boy and 1 girl).

It should be noted that the Poipet Victim Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Center in Banteay Meanchey Province was officially inaugurated on Monday morning, December 18, 2023. This center is a grant from the Kingdom of Thailand to help victims of human trafficking, which was built at a total cost of 2,999,920 US dollars on a total area of 9,768 square meters, located in Prachea Thom East Village, Sangkat OuRussey, Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province.
